Barricade Distribution - Arm yourself with ideas!

Barricade Distribution is a new initiative by anarchists in Derry, in an effort to spread and share anarchist ideas to a wider audience locally.
Discussions over the last few months have centred around creating a grassroots independent social space in Derry as it is felt it is badly needed. A place to organise and to socialise from as well as to educate and create ourselves collectively.
This is of course a long term goal and obviously requires greater participation with like minded people. It is our view that by creating an outreach project such as Barricade Distribution in which activists intend to be present on the streets holding regular information stalls with a view of having our own social space, centre, local in the year ahead.
Our first outing will be at this year's Derry Radical Bookfair on Sat. 28th January 2017 at Pilots Row community centre.
If you would like to get involved, take part in any of our activities then we would urge you to make the next step and get in touch.

No War But The Class War!

Anarchists in Derry took part in today's anti war demonstration at the city centre war memorial as we have done many times before with a clear anarchist message 'No War But The Class War!'

All of the speakers quite rightly condemned the continuing atrocities being inflicted upon the people of Syria and the entire Middle East, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis not witnessed on this scale in decades.

Twenty-four hour media manipulation on both sides of the propaganda war has deliberately created mass confusion as to who the real perpetrators truly are as Russia, Europe and United States attempt to gain the high moral ground while thousands are killed, millions left without homes and entire communities devastated.

Their unofficial policy of endless war and destabilization is an attempt to divert the world's working class into the dead-end of supporting their "own" states in the name of "civilisation", the same civilisation that allows 25,000 children to die every day from malnutrition and preventable diseases. All countries involved are attempting to reignite the flames of nationalism to divert attention away from the crisis of capitalism at home in their own national interests.

Amongst this confusion and chaos elements of the Left have already chosen one side against in bizarre scenes reminiscent of old Cold War battles, as if old scores need settled. For anarchists we make no such alliances. We are anti-imperialist and opposed to the continous wars orchestrated throughout the Middle East between Russia, USA and of course Europe.

Obama and Putin are terrorists, butchers and murderers, no less than their puppets al-Assad or Islamic State. They are all the enemies of working people. As working-class internationalists, we oppose this war and all other imperialist wars, and raise the slogan NO WAR BUT CLASS WAR!

Here in Ireland we must not fall into the trap of hopelessness which many are overcome by through television propaganda fuelled by BBC, RT, FOX, SKY, CNN or RTE. Confusion and demoralisation by relentless images of war, devastation and death can take its toll but small acts of solidarity action on the streets can make an impact.

Anti War actions such as today's in Derry are important to highlight issues such as Refuelling at Shannon, Palestine, Kurdistan or Refugee solidarity. Acting locally and linking nationally and internationally can create a strong and effective anti-war movement.

As anarchists, ultimately we call on all workers to reject all forms of nationalism - to unite in their workplaces, to strike in opposition not only to this war but all wars and to help bring about the transformation of society from the barbarism of capitalism to a free, just, and equal society. Only the working class has the power to do this, just as the revolutionary action of the world's working class stopped the First World War 100 years ago.

Strikes, occupations, formation of community or workers' councils - these were the actions the workers took against that war, and they managed to bring the slaughter to a halt. That is why we continue to call for - No War But Class War!

Stop Repression - Free All Political Prisoners Now!

Anarchists in Derry took part in a series of solidarity actions in a show of international support and solidarity with anarchists and antifascists imprisoned in Russia.

Last month the Anarchist Black Cross of Moscow issued an international call for solidarity in support of activists currently facing an extremely intensive political and repressive situation in Russia, especially anarchist and antifa comrades and thosse fighting for human rights and social justice issues.

Many of who have recently found themselves locked up in high security prisons or isolated in modern day forced labor camps across Russia because of their activism. Some of who were also convicted on the basis of forced confessions obtained under torture.

In Derry's Bogside area at Free Derry Corner, local anarchists took part in a banner drop as part of this intenational call to support of our Russian anarchist and anti-fascist comrades in a gesture of international solidarity and to add our voice to call for their immediate release.

Long live anarchy!
Да здравствует анархия!

Out Now: Barricade Bulletin No.1

Out this week is a new bi-monthly info bullettin Barricade Bullettin from Derry Anarchists.

We decided to try and reach others who might be interested in class struggle anarchism around Derry and the North West with the production of our own regular free anarchist bulletin.

Our first issue will report on recent activity, opinion, interview with a local anarchist, prisoner support as well as a setion on What is Anarchism?

It is our view that Barricade Bulletin will be another tool for reaching others locally who are interested in anarchism and seeking an actual grassroots alternative to sectarian party politics.

The name Barricade Bulletin stems from a similar street bulletin with the same name that was produced locally during the events of Free Derry of the late sixties, early seventies.

It is also our intention to also issue Barricade Bulletin in a PDF format online to friends and supporters from outside of Derry.

If you would like to distribute it locally or contribute to future issues of Barricade Bulletin then let us know.

Derry May Day 2016

This years annual 'May Day' march and rally in Derry was smaller than previous years even though most of politicians on offer in next weeks Stormont elections were in attendance and of course many of the main trade unions were represented.
Organised by the Derry Trades Union Council the speakers on the main stage included Liam Gallagher (Unite), Niall McCarroll (Unison Community), Noeleen Beattie (Unison), Susan Parlour (NAS/UWT). Several community and campaign groups were alos represented including anarchists from the WSM in Derry and two from the CNT Madrid.

As ever please feel free to tag and share images.
